Saint Nicolaos

Following the art style of the Russian School, the icon of Saint Nicolaos is characterized by strong bright colors, intense lines on the face, luminosity of the body and clarity of the design. Saint Nicolaos wears an elaborate crown and a white gown over the shoulders with three crosses. He holds the gospel closed with his left hand and blesses with his right hand. Jesus and The Virgin Mary in smaller scale in each side of the Saint are shown on small clouds carrying the gospel and the gown as per the subject of the established iconography. The face of the Saint is depicted with a white round beard, white hair and a light wrinkle on the forehead. This icon of Saint Nicolaos of the Russian technique follows the standards of the Cretan School around 1500 A.D.
